Forget overpriced schools, long days in a crowded classroom, and pitifully poor results. These websites and apps cover myriads of science, art, and technology topics. They will teach you practically anything, from making hummus to building apps in node.js, most of them for free. There is absolutely no excuse for you not to master a new skill, expand your knowledge, or eventually boost your career. You can learn interactively at your own pace and in the comfort of your own home. It’s hard to imagine how much easier it can possibly be. Below are the freely available online learning tools I use the most. I also make extensive use of various websites, applications, and code editors. Some of them are excellent reference material for beginner programmers. They are all awesome in their own right, though. If there’s one missing you think should be featured, feel free to let me know in the comments! 1. Codecademy can be used to learn quite a few programming languages including HTML & CSS, JavaScript & jQuery, PHP & MySQL, Python & Ruby on Rails.2. Coursera is one of the best sites out there for studying computer science topics in-depth. It has a number of online courses on programming, frameworks, databases, and application development. Freely available for anyone to access at any time of day. 3. Khan Academy is an initiative of nonprofit organization founded by Salman Khan in 2009. Freely available for anyone to access at any time of day and covers a wide array of topics with short and clear videos and special segments with guest experts. 4. CodeSchool is a relatively new site that offers free interactive courses on coding topics such as JavaScript, HTML & CSS, Ruby on Rails tutorial and more. 5. The Maker Faire is a wide range of activities such as robotics, 3D printing, and computer-controlled designs in general. They promote DIY community and emphasize education in the creative arts. It is an organized event organized by Make Magazine in NYC each year. 6. Khan Academy has extensive video series covering a plethora of topics from a social sciences point of view including humanities, medicine, psychology, philosophy & art history. There is a section dedicated to science subjects such as biology and physics for which many videos have been produced with experts from MIT and Harvard universities appearing frequently on the site. 7. scilifelinks is a scientific directory with a broad range of topics including cosmology, neuroscience, computer science, physics, biology and chemistry. 8. Open Culture is a non-profit digital library with a broad array of educational resources in the form of videos and books.9. TED talks consist of presentations from world-leading experts in their field with topics ranging from psychology to technology and business to science. 10. Harvard courses offer online lectures for free for anyone who wants to learn anything from history to literature or math to medicine. 11. cfa1e77820
