After looking into the matter, the Supreme Court has admitted a petition filed by filmmaker Anurag Kashyap against an order of the Bombay High Court to give cuts in his film Udta Punjab. The apex court on Tuesday asked respondents to file their responses within eight weeks before it hears the petition on July 7. A bench headed by Chief Justice of India T S Thakur issued notices to the Centre and the Bombay High Court. In its petition, Kashyap had objected to the High Court order asking him to make 94 cuts in his film Udta Punjab. He submitted that the court had not shown him a copy of the report before passing its order and he had been denied a fair hearing. "Consequently, petitioner's fundamental rights have been violated," he said, adding his fundamental right to freedom of speech and expression has been violated by an "error of law".
